Travels With My Sister - Jaffa's flea market
My sister and I often go on fascinating, exhausting shopping trips.
Our destination is most often Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv is very hot in the summer and the humidity can be hard to bear, but
the city never disappoints and we always discover new things.
We began this trip in Jaffa's flea market,
and to be precise in a small café in the center of the flea market.
It was difficult to get up and leave after
an hour, the breakfast, the chair and the air conditioning in favor of the heat
outside but our schedule was tight.
We tried on second-hand clothes and
jewelry, looked at used lamps, but did not buy anything in spite of the wide selection
we found.
We continued to Rina Zin's studio and bought a few clothes to put in the closet, we almost fainted over Daniella Lehavi's shoes and bags, walked into Frau Blau's and then into Obsessia because we are obsessed with second hand clothes. In Sheinkin we got a bit tired and went to eat 'Sabih' which, if you are unfamiliar, is a pita bread with fried eggplants, hard boiled eggs, and baked potatoes, with amba (Mango sauce) and tahini.
On her way home my sister stopped at IKEA
for a quick buy. Shopping never tires us, on the contrary!

Summer Crafts For Kids
The
summer vacation is here, the children are home most of the time and I'm looking
for creative activities that might lure them away from the computer screen even
for a while.
When
I choose craft ideas for kids to do at home, my main concerns are how much mess
they will create and how long will it take to restore order, because the summer
vacation is long and I need to conserve my strength to last me all summer.
I
love going through Pinterst.
I can always find inspiration there and ideas for fun crafts for kids. As
always, I quickly found what I was looking for.
My son's drawings on a milk carton |
Here
are two craft ideas for kids that you can easily make at home without a lot of
preparation. The inspiration for the first project came from Isabelle Kessedjian .
We
took empty milk cartons and colored them with acrylic paints. After the paint
dried the kids drew windows, doors and balconies.
The
inspiration for building a house from an empty cardboard box came from Bella Dia.

"Happy Father’s Day" Gift Wrapping Paper
Father's Day is approaching. This is an emotional day for me. I never got to celebrate Father's Day because my father passed away when I was young. Today, when I think of my children wrapping a gift for their father, I am moved.
One of the strongest memories I have from my father is his tool box. A tool box containing dozens of tools collected over the years, well taken care of and each showing the wear and tear of regular use for which it was intended.
We all have tools boxes we inherited from our parents. With years and experience we add new tools with which we expand and enrich our life experiences.
For Father's Day I decided to show how we can make gift wrapping paper, very professional looking, by using simple means at almost no cost. My inspiration was, as you already understand, my father's tool box.
I arranged the tools on a brown cardboard.
I took a photo of the composition with my reliable Canon SD800 Digital Camera. It is advisable to take a photo from different angles to get a tri-dimensional feel.
Using Photoshop (you can use any photo-editing program) I edited the photos to A3 size, and added the text 'Happy Father's Day dad!'
You don't have to add text, but if you do you can also add names and additional text.
I printed the photos on A3 paper, so that I will have a good size for wrapping gifts.
Now you have your own, personalized, gift wrapping paper ready for use – Happy Father's Day !
You can free download the file here. If you try this please share with me your results.
Till next time,
Yamayka.
Happy father’s day dad!

A Skirt With A Doll
In my frequent surfing in Pintrest, I came across a photo that reminded me of a skirt I once made.
The skirt was a simple A-line (the kind that is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, giving the impression of the shape of a capital letter A) made from printed Viscose fabric.
I was very into making appliques at that time. The inspiration for the drawing in the photo above came from a book about making porcelain dolls. It is a doll's head and you can see the two holes that are used to attach the head to the body, usually made entirely out of fabric.
The general idea was to make a framed drawing which I could add to the skirt.
I printed the drawing on suitable paper and ironed it on fabric. I then sewed a rectangular pillow, filled it with foam and added a white string of pearls.
The photo is from a beautiful blog called elephantine. I wonder if it reminds you of the skirt too?

Make Your Own Gift Wrapping Paper
Homemade Gift Wrapping Paper |
One of the best tricks I use in order
to get a creative gift wrapping, is to make the wrapping paper itself.
This homemade paper that I’m
going to talk about today can be reused again and again because cellotape can be easily
removed from it.
Here are some layouts I've made... What is you're favorite layout???

Layout-Happy Blue |

The technique is quite easy:
All you need
is: a magazine, Scissors, glue , Tissue paperand cellophane.
I 'm using scissors to cut out some
images from the magazine, then placing them on a tissue paper which is used as a background. Attaching each
piece using UHU stick and adding a cellophane to wrap the present.

Collage making is such a fun! Let me know what you think of this gift wrapping idea, and if you try it I'd love to see!
